Hmm...
I think getting in only first step.
Cos once inside.
They restart everything again.
Both my girls did so badly... They failed subjects which they never had done so in primary school. So, don't need to be hung up with failing...
Cos it's normal to fail subjects in sec...
And I have come to accept it.
Number 1 failed like 3 subjects.
Number 2 failed like 3 subjects.
PS
Hubby is worried cos number 1 gg O levels next year and this year still scoring like 20+ for 5 subjects..
I, am quite carefree.
I think if they really cherish and think about it, they need to be genuine in wanting good results. Hunny is stressed but I can't stressed her cos it's her future. Not mine. She knows the importance of studying but we are too hung up with perfection.

So, don't need to stress so much.
Let them enjoy.... In fact, e place I'm working now, my reporting officers are from neighborhood schools. Or even from Malaysia. The brightest ones may be from poly.
It's really about attitude in working environment.
I got good O levels results. but I am still a lowly civil servant serving the pple..
But I think most importantly, I find joy in what I'm doing and I really enjoy my job.
It helps me put food on the table
Give me a decent income. Let me pursue my passion with the children.
And when pple know my profession, they always ask me...
Do u even teach them at home, since u are a teacher?
My typical response will be.
They just play.
Don't need to study so hard. Control so much also not v useful. They need to know the WHY they need to study.
Then they will do the HOW to do it.
When the time comes, they will find the right motivation to work for it.
And the parents here are right.
We need to inculcate kindness in children. This is the most important quality I am trying very hard to imbue in them.
Like pollyanna, if u treat ppl with kindness, most of the times they will return with kindness. Just hack care about those who take advantage of them. There will always be some lone wolves who are bullies....
So u are right in training them for other qualities other than studying.
U know what, based on latest PISA results, the late 30+ to 65 age group folks are declining faster in their comprehension and math ability vs those in similar developed nations.
So, in short, our kids study really v v hard when they were at 15 years old.

But come to middle age, they are not challenging their brains to work as hard as before. so, we also need to ensure we still stay tip top in our brains even while working...and not take everything contentedly. ...
That's all, Merry Christmas to all.
PS just a lowly educator in the service for the last 16 years with 3 kids in tow.
